New Shoes!

Well, not exactly.  I had this pair of red canvas shoes from Target that I LOVED - they were soooo comfy, but they were also old and ratty and faded.  They'd been washed a billion times, worn to the beach and around the garden, and were not only faded, but the rope trim around the bottom was fuzzy and unravelling, too.

Plus, I really wanted some black ones that I could wear with everything if I wanted to.

So I made some!   One of the things I do in the SCA is paint silk banners, so I had some black Dye-Na-Flow fabric paint sitting around, and I thought, what the hell, these things are shot anyway, might as well try it.  I trimmed up the frazzled trim and took a paintbrush to the shoes, then ran them through the dryer on high heat to set the dye/paint after it was dry, and voila:

(the "gray" spot on the left foot is a camera flare, sorry)

:D

I promise I haven't forgotten about you, or that couch I keep mentioning.  Soon!

Um...Never Mind.

Well, I THOUGHT I was going to have an update on the living room furniture today for you, but I sort of just FAIL.

About a week ago I made a cover for the cushions on my little folding day sofa, to turn them from a bunch of cut-up couch cushions into an actual mattress for the frame.  No problem.

Last night I got a spare hour, and made a really pretty little pillowcase-like slipcover for it.  Casual, cute, soft, neutral, and easily removed to be washed and de-cat-haired when necessary.  And I measured it.  I did. Several times.  I accounted for seam allowances and finishing and everything.

And it was still way too small.  I have no idea what happened.  Sigh.

*

Over the next few days, I'm hoping I can show you a fixed version of that and thereby a finished day sofa.  I'm also working on that brown couch again,  and I have a NEW sofa to tell you about soon, too.

Soon.  Good night, I have SO much crap to do right now.

In Time, All Things Return

This is my bedroom, as of the last time you saw it:

King size, plain metal frame, two dumb-ass nightstands which actually have since been replaced with cuter ones, one of which is a little dresser.

Not that I bothered to take a picture.

The bedroom has evolved quite a bit over the past several years.  It's one of the two main rooms in the house in which I'm never satisfied with anything, and LOVE playing with, so it changes all the time.

This is how it looked in 2009.  This is the bed I built in 2008, and the Ikea mattress that's been in the guest room ever since Kress and I got the king.

Peaceful, monochromatic, and simple.

I've actually missed this bed.  I've thought about re-working it to fit the king, but never gotten around to it.  It didn't seem quite right, somehow.  So it lived in the garage for a while.

Kress and I are now roommates and great friends, rather than a couple.  He and his big king bed live in another room now, and once again I've set up my wooden canopy bed, and the queen-size mattress set from Ikea that's been living in the guest room all this time.  Voila:

That's happy.   :)

More changes to come. Stay tuned.

January In Review

January In Review

  • cute botanical stuff in the bedroom hallway

Yeah...January was mostly about going on a cruise, being on a cruise, and then recovering from a cruise, hehe.  And LOTS of SCA projects, which you can find on my SCA blog here

Something Green, Something New

I did two things yesterday:

1.   I re-organized some of the houseplants into a more green-
house-like space.  This is the window corner in the living
room, behind the little Day Sofa.

2.  I started a gardening blog!  You all know about the Martian Death Fungus and the drought;  well, 2013 is the year I start up the serious gardening once again!  You can follow my progress a bit here, from time to time, but if you're really interested, go check out A Bit of Earth.
